Reel Filmmaking is the film skills training arm of Reel Solutions, providing opportunities for young people to have fun with filmmaking processes, gain confidence, new skills and learn more about careers in the UK screen industries, which we are very proud to be a part of. We believe in the next generation, their enthusiasm, their talent and their ambitions and feel hugely privileged to be able to help support and play a role in enabling their dreams, expanding their horizons and experience. We have been running filmmaking courses since 2011 in partnership with organisations such as British Film Institute (BFI) and Into Film and wherever possible with local partners in order to connect young people with their local film networks.
We have been delivering film schools to young people in Yorkshire for the British Film Institute (BFI) since the start of the BFI Film Academy scheme in 2011, providing the very highest quality film skills training to talented young people aged 16-19. We extended our reach to Cheshire in 2017 and deliver a BFI Film Academy in partnership with the Storyhouse in Chester during the October half term school/college holidays which focuses on Virtual Reality (VR) and 360° filmmaking.
We also run an Academy in Bradford in partnership with the University of Bradford starting December 2022 and a BFI Film Club in Scarborough which will run in 2023 enabling us to extend filmmaking opportunities and training to a younger age group of 12 - 15 year olds.
Reel Solutions is a cultural agency based in Yorkshire predominantly working in film. As well as our education work and practical filmmaking courses, we provide guidance and support to a range of local, national and international creative businesses and organisations such as film and arts festivals, commercial and independent cinema venues. We offer a range of services including programming advice, a film booking service, resource packs for teachers and cinemas and CPD training. Other services include evaluation, bid writing, project management services and support with strategic planning. Our clients have included British Film Institute, Into Film, Independent Cinema Office, The Junction in Goole, Stephen Joseph Theatre in Scarborough and Cambridge Film Festival.
We have developed and, in some cases, continue to run our own and partnered projects such as the Manchester Animation Festival, the UK’s largest animation festival; Screenwaves, a rural cinema pilot on the Yorkshire coast which took the big screen to small community venues; and Day Schools, a specialised cultural cinema education programme running in venues and online for those who enjoy watching and talking about film.
